Introduction: In the mid-19th century, Nigeria established its first post office, but at the time it was considered a branch of the British postal system. The Royal Nigerian Company began to build its own postal system after 1874. In more than ten years, Akas, Calabar, Brutu, and Roja have all set up postal institutions in succession. At the time, mail exchanges between these trading locations and the Nigerian capital Lagos were carried out by mail ships once a week. In 1987, Nigeria Post was separated from the postal and telecommunications sector and became an additional independent sector.
